On October 13, 2023, Harmony Trust inaugurated its new project, “Embracing Early Detection and Holistic Measures Countering Breast Cancer,” with a special workshop aimed at women Ready-Made Garment (RMG) workers. The event was hosted at Dhaka Uddyan, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, in partnership with Safety and Rights Society. This workshop is part of a series of nationwide activities organized under the umbrella of Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum throughout the month.
In the context of the concerning rise in breast cancer cases in Bangladesh, Harmony Trust’s project is designed to adopt a rights-based approach to health. The initiative targets to empower women, especially those residing in slums, and working in sectors like construction, textile, tannery, and leather, with the knowledge and tools needed for early detection and holistic cancer care.
The workshop accomplished its target of raising awareness among the participants about the critical aspects of managing breast cancer. It covered topics ranging from the importance of early detection through self-examination to holistic health measures like yoga and reflexology. The participants were also introduced to various lifestyle modifications that could aid in building resilience against this disease.
Through this project, Harmony Trust continues to commit to its overarching goal of promoting healthy lives and well-being, with particular attention to vulnerable groups in the urban population. This workshop marks an important step in empowering women to take proactive measures for their health, thereby contributing to a healthier, more informed community.
